A research hub that collects data and unites researchers and projects on the topic of local economies.
The Lab periodically produces microeconomic reports and analyses in which data are visualised and commented on, describing geographical and temporal patterns, and analysing the underlying mechanisms.
The first Italian hub for scientific research on local economies
The mission of the Local Opportunities Lab is to promote efficiency and equity in policies and projects with an impact at the micro level. Efficiency means long-term growth and sustainability. Equity means equality of opportunity for those born in different places or generations.
The Lab respects the deontology of scientific research and focuses on the fields of labour economics, education economics, industrial economics, geographical economics and public finance.
The values in which we believe and with which we work are those of consistency, responsibility and respect for the scientific method, for people and their freedoms, and for equality of opportunity.
The LOL project was started with the intention of creating a large dataset that collects and cleans up data from different sources, to pool the knowledge of a group of researchers around which will gravitate a scientific committee, research collaborators who want to help and stakeholders interested in supporting and using the Lab.
The Lab is financially supported by the Algebris Policy & Research Forum, a not-for-profit advisory forum on European economic policy issues, in collaboration with Tortuga Econ, a non-profit association and think-tank of students, researchers and young professionals working in the economics and social sciences fields.
The Lab is helping to tackle the coronavirus emergency. We use our granular data on income, health system, employment, pollution, social capital and more to predict the characteristics associated with higher levels of infection. This allows us to identify the areas most at risk.
